Blog Description

A new rosary devotion to Mary's pondering heart,
derived from the Church's Liturgy of the Hours.
The Florilegium is a scriptural rosary like the Angelus,
with a verse of scripture for each Hail Mary;
and with a Mystery of the Lord for each day of the week;
and a florilegium of verses for each liturgical season:
the Florilegium Joyful in Ordinary Time;
the Florilegium Sorrowful for Lent and Advent;
and the Florilegium Glorious for Easter, Christmas, & Feastdays.

St. Laurence Justinian Text

As Mary pondered all she had learned from what she read, what she heard, what she saw,
how greatly did she increase in faith, advance in merit, become enlightened with wisdom, and consumed with burning love!
Drawing life and inspiration from the heavenly mysteries that were being unlocked for her, she was filled with joy.
Imitate her, O faithful soul. Enter into the temple of your heart, that you may be purified in spirit.

Merciful Jesus,
we revere thy sacred name in union with
the profound reverence of the Angel who
first announced it to the Blessed Virgin Mary,
and in union with the tender affection which
it enkindled in her immaculate heart
as likewise in the pure heart of blessed Joseph.

Inspired by firm faith in thy word and sure trust in thy mercy,
we bid thee now to remember thy promise:
Where there are two or three gathered in my Name,
there am I in the midst of them.
Come then into the midst of us, most loving Jesus,
for it is in thy sacred Name that we are here assembled.

Rs.  As I call upon thy holy Name, O Jesus,
do thou save me for thy Name's sake.

Come into our hearts, most gentle Jesus,
that thy Holy Spirt may pray in us and by us.

Rs.  As I call upon thy holy Name, O Jesus,
do thou save me for thy Name's sake.

Come to our help, most sweet Jesus,
through that adorable Name which is
the joy of heaven and the terror of hell;

through that amiable Name which is
the consolation of the afflicted;

and through that saving Name,
which is the ground of all our hope:

Rs.  As I call upon thy holy Name, O Jesus,
do thou save me for thy Name's sake.

And mercifully grant us the prayers of petitions which
we make in this holy hour,
if they be according to thy good will and purpose,
and to the glory of thy name,
for there is in truth no other Name under heaven
whereby we must be saved.

Rs. Amen

READINGS

A SCRIPTURAL READING
FROM THE GOSPEL OF ST. JOHN (14:1-14)

Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God: believe also in me.

In my Father's house there are many mansions. If not, I would have told you that I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and I will take you to myself, that where I am, you also may be. And where I am going, you know; and you know the way.

Thomas says to him, Lord, we know not where you go; how, then, can we know the way? Jesus says to him: I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father, but by me. If you had known me, you would certainly have known my Father also. Henceforth you shall know him, and you have seen him.

Philip said, Lord, show us the Father and it will be enough for us.” Jesus says to him: Have I been with you so long and yet you have not known me? Philip, he that sees me sees the Father also. How is it you say, Show us the Father. Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?

The words that I speak to you, I speak not of myself. But he, the Father who abides in me, he does the works. Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? Then believe because of the works.

Amen, amen, I say to you, he that believes in me, the works that I do, he also shall do, and greater than these shall he do, because I go to the Father: and whatever you shall ask the Father in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask me anything in my name, that I will do.

Responsory:

Vs.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
If you ask the Father anything in my name,
he will give it to you.
Ask, so that your joy may be full.

Rs.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
Vs.  Amen, amen, I say to you, that you shall lament and weep,
and you shall be made sorrowful,
but your sorrow shall be turned into joy:
Rs.  Ask, so that your joy may be full

Rs.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
Vs.  If you ask the Father anything in my Name,
he will give it to you.
Rs.  Ask, so that your joy may be full.

A MEDITATION FROM THE OFFICE OF THE HOLY NAME
FROM A SERMON OF ST. BERNADINE OF SIENA

This indeed is that most Holy Name which was so desired by the patriarchs of old, so anxiously longed for, so long awaited with so much suffering, so much invoked with so many sighs, so begged for with so many tears, but then mercifully given in the time of grace. Hide, I plead, the name of power! May the name of vengeance not be heard; may the name of justice be held back! Give us the name of mercy! May the Name of Jesus resound in my ears, because truly then, Lord, sweet is your voice, and beautiful your face.

Great therefore is the Name of Jesus, the foundation of faith, making us children of God. For the faith of the Catholic religion consists in bringing us the knowledge of Jesus Christ and his light: he is the light of the soul, the door to life, the foundation of eternal salvation. Thus if a man has not this light or has left it, he walks through the darkness of the night as one without light and, as one with eyes closed, rushing among dangers.  And however bright the excellence of his reason may be, he is following a blind guide in seeking to understand the heavenly mysteries with only his own understanding; or in trying to build a house but neglecting the foundation; or, forgetting the door, wanting to enter through the roof. For Jesus is this foundation, this light and door, who, to show himself as the Way to those who had gone astray, brought to all that light of the faith by which the unknown God can be sought; and, sought, can be believed; and, believed, can be found.

This foundation sustains the Church, built in the Name of Jesus. The Name of Jesus is the splendour of preachers because with luminous splendor it announces his word and makes it heard. How do you think the light of faith spread across the globe so widely, so quickly, and so fervently, if not by Jesus’ being preached? Did not God call us into his admirable light by the light and taste of this Name? Because we have been enlightened and have seen the light in that light, Paul rightly says: Once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord: walk as children of light.

O glorious name, O gracious name, O lovable and virtuous name! Through you crimes are forgiven; through you enemies are defeated; through you the weak are set free; through you those suffering are comforted and cheered. You are the honor of believers; you, the teacher of preachers; you, the strengthener of those who work; you, the sustainer of those who weaken. Thanks to your heart's burning fervor and warmth, desires are enkindled; petitions are made; and souls are intoxicated. Through you are glorified also all those triumphing in heavenly glory. With them, O most sweet Jesus, make us reign, by this your most holy Name.

 Responsory:

Vs.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
The angel said to him: Joseph, Son of David,
you are to call his name Jesus:
For he shall save his people from their sins.

Rs.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:

Vs.
Rising up, Joseph did as the angel of the Lord commanded him:
and when the eight days were accomplished that he should be circumcised,
he called his name Jesus.
Rs.  For he shall save his people from their sins.

Rs. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:

Vs.  The angel said to him: Joseph, Son of David,
you are to call his name Jesus:

O Virgin of virgins,
to you have I come, O my Mother,
before you I stand a sinner grieving.

 O Mother of the Word of God,
Disdain not the words of my prayer,
but kindly give ear and graciously hear,
O most loving Virgin and Mother.

Vs. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God:
Rs. That we be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

( A leader recites the concluding prayer:)

Lord holy Father,
 as thy only-begotten Son by his life, death, and resurrection
 has obtained for us the rewards of eternal life:
 grant us, we beseech thee,
 that by pondering in our hearts these mysteries of his works on earth
 which his blessed Mother keeps in her heart perpetually in heaven,
 we may imitate the faith in his Name that they contain
 and obtain the healing that they promise,
 both here for our earthly infirmities
 and hereafter in our heavenly home.

 In the name of  the same Jesus Christ our Lord:
